Hexagonal shaped salt flats, polygonal lines of raised salt created from evaporation in dry season, Salar de Uyuni, Bolivia, South America. Underneath this salt crust is the world's largest reservoir of lithium, an essential element of batteries. January 2013 marked the first major attempt to extract lithium in Bolivia. Salar de Uyuni covers an area of 6,510 square miles and sits at an elevated altitude of 3500 meters.
